What is a career as a podiatrist in healthcare?

A career as a podiatrist involves diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the feet, ankles, and lower limbs. Podiatrists help patients manage pain, improve mobility, and prevent or address complications caused by injury, illness, or chronic conditions like diabetes. They work with people of all ages, providing care through techniques such as orthotics, minor surgery, and education on foot health.

You will need to complete a degree in podiatry approved by the Health and Care Professions Council.

If you already have a degree in a healthcare or science subject, you may be able to apply for an accelerated degree in podiatry.

Some organisations offer the Podiatrist Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship. This is usually only open to staff who are working as a podiatry assistant, who can study for a degree to qualify as a podiatrist whilst on the job.

A starting salary is £29,970 with opportunity to progress up to £52,809 with experience and ability to specialise.
