What is a career as a paramedic in healthcare?
A career as a paramedic involves providing life-saving medical care and support to people in emergency situations. Paramedics are highly trained professionals who assess, diagnose, and treat patients at the scene of an incident, often under intense pressure. They play a vital role in stabilising patients, delivering pre-hospital care, and transporting them to medical facilities. This dynamic and rewarding role requires quick thinking, clinical expertise, and a compassionate approach.
Entry routes and pay
You will need to complete a degree in paramedic science approved by the Health and Care Professions Council. You will then need to apply to an ambulance service as a qualified paramedic and register with the Health and Care Professions Council before you can start practising.
Are available but will require you to meet the accreditation of prior learning set out by the university plus, maths and English and level 2 and Emergency Response Driving Qualification. This apprenticeship is a follow on from the Emergency Medical Technician apprenticeship.
This apprenticeship takes 2 years to undertake.
A starting salary is £29,970 with opportunity to progress up to £52,809 with experience and ability to specialise.
