What is a career as a reablement worker in health and social care?

A reablement worker focuses on helping individuals regain their independence after illness, injury, or a hospital stay. Reablement workers support people in re-learning daily living skills, promoting recovery, and reducing reliance on long-term care services.

Key duties:

  • Working with patients to regain mobility and independence in daily tasks like dressing, cooking, and personal care, encouraging confidence to manage their own needs.
  • Supporting rehabilitation exercises under professional guidance and monitoring progress and adapting support plans.
  • Providing emotional support and motivation and liaising with other healthcare teams and professionals to ensure coordinated care.

Entry routes and pay

There are no set entry requirements but expect a good standards of English and Maths  and some may ask for qualifications such as GCSEs, NVQs or equivalent.

A starting salary of £23,615 with opportunity to progress up to £25,674 with experience and additional training.
