Routes into Health and Care

Working in health or care is not only rewarding but somewhere you can build a life-long career with great benefits. You have the freedom and flexibility to choose what is best for you.

Let us help you to build the experience needed to start your career…

Volunteers play a vital role in shaping the future of health and social care. Volunteers are recruited from the communities we serve including people who are retired, students, employed and unemployed. Volunteering presents many opportunities for people to use and enhance their skills or share their knowledge, develop a sense of purpose or increase their self-confidence, and it offers opportunities to learn and gain experience in many areas.

Work Experience

Work experience is a fantastic way of gaining insight into a career especially what a typical day is like for that job.  It is often a shadowing opportunity with a set learning or exposure objective. During work experience, you will spend time in the workplace to learn about a job role and the health and care sector. It can be a valuable way for you to develop confidence and experience caring for people.

Volunteering tends to be more long-term with the focus on giving something back. Both work experience and volunteering will develop your skills and strengths.

Return to Practice

Returning healthcare professionals have a key role to play in ensuring patients and service users have access to experienced and well-trained care staff equipped with the right skills.

Many healthcare professionals have re-entered the profession they are passionate about, working in various healthcare settings such as acute care, community care, and primary care across England.

Return to practice initiatives have led to the enrolment of thousands of individuals in training to re-enter the nursing and other professional fields.

Check with any local universities if they have a return to practice course.
